Question:
In a recent article from Ostomy Canada, included in the Stratford ON support group newsletter, it mentioned that exercise can help strengthen the abdominal wall after ostomy surgery. I was very interested in this item as it appears to be opposite to the information I received from a visit to my local Care Partners clinic. However, the article did not make any suggestions as to what exercises would be helpful to those, such as me, who have had a permanent ileostomy performed.
Response:
You have asked a very good and very commonly asked question.
It is suggested to see a physiotherapist who can assess your abdominal muscles and develop an exercise program for you to strengthen your core or your abdominal muscles safely.
