Youth Camp Mission Statement

“To provide an opportunity for young people aged 9-18 who have ostomies or other special related needs (internal pouch, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, bladder exstrophy, cancer, cecostomy tube, Mitrofanoff or spina bifida), to attend camp and participate in camp activities under professional supervision”.

Each year (public health rules govern) Ostomy Canada Society staff and a team of professional and dedicated volunteers provide a welcoming and transformational experience for up to 40 children and youth to attend the Easter Seals Camp Horizon, Bragg Creek, Alberta (southwest of Calgary). For more information about the camp, please refer to the Camper Online Registration.

What is Ostomy Canada’s Youth camp?

A fun-filled camp experience held in July at Easter Seals Camp Horizon near Bragg Creek, Alberta. Camp Horizon is a wonderful, all-accessible facility. In our week, volunteers and medical professionals who are mentors and experts in ostomy care oversee your children’s fun and well-being.

Easter Seals Camp Horizon provides individuals with disabilities and medical conditions with life-changing outdoor camp experiences. Camp offers a unique opportunity for campers to build self-esteem and self-care. Activities challenge their mind and body, while creating lasting friendships and life long memories (*see https://easterseals.ab.ca/camp-horizon/). The camper experience will include:

  • Providing formal/informal education on anatomy and physiology, self esteem, coping and sexuality
  • Encouraging independence and self confidence with personal care and camp activities
  • Providing individual mentorship on stoma care and ostomy related needs (physical and or psychosocial). Formal/informal education sessions, swimming, high rope course, giant swing, camp outs, arts & crafts, outdoor recreation, dance, rap sessions, archery and so much more….like fun, friendships and life long memories

If you have any questions please contact our Camp Administrator (Lisa Gausman) at Ostomy Canada Society. (lisa.gausman@ostomycanada.ca).

The Camp will run from July 7-12, 2024. Contact Ostomy Canada Society for information about registration fees and financial assistance.

No child is ever denied the opportunity to attend camp due to financial limitations.
