I was wondering if you could help. My mom has been living with an ostomy bag, (I hope I have the terminology right- it’s for urine) mostly changing it herself for about 15 – 20 years. We recently moved her from a retirement condo where she was living independently to a retirement home and she is having lots of difficulty with the transition as is understandable. The night bag keeps leaking where it attaches at the joint/connector. You place a 1.5 inch tube connector over tube part attached to her stomach to connect the tube to the night bag. She wakes up in the morning and has to have her bed changed and not helping in her transition. She gets her supplies from Starkmans and they have an Ostomy specialist who only works on Sat. but she is away ill, others are not very helpful. I need to understand if there is another style of night bag or connection tube that is less prone to leaking. I don’t know where to turn to get information on this or other stores for these supplies.
Thanks for your help.
To assist your Mom we suggest that you call the manufacturers – their contact information is on the box of supplies. It could be the incorrect night attachment device, if that is where the problem is. I would also highly recommend that you find an Enterostomal Nurse (ET Nurses are specialist in ostomy care and equipment). The ET specialist will be able to assess the situation and make recommendations. To find an ET Ostomy nurse specialist in the Toronto area please call CAET (The Canadian Association for Enterostomal Therapy) at 888-739-5072. Or, you can stay on this website, go to the red bar at top and locate, “Support”, click on this, a drop down menu will appear and you will see, “Find an E.T. Nurse” click on this and then follow the instructions.
We do hope this helps.
Our friends over at Nurses Specialized In Wound, Ostomy And Continence Canada [NSWOCC] (formerly called The Canadian Association for Enterostomal Therapy (CAET)) have renamed their handy look-up page on their website. It was formerly called “Find An ET Nurse” and is now called “Find a NSWOC“. Click on the image to the left or link here to go to their site.
