Question:

Hello I have had a temporary ileostomy for over 5 years. 2 years ago surgeons had to remove additional 70 cm of small bowel because of a medical emergency. Because of the additional removal, I am no longer considered a candidate for Jpouch surgery. The length of the small bowel would simply not reach the anus from what I was told by a surgeon. My question is, is there any other options for me? Wondering if anyone has seen other patients in a similar situation before?

I have been dealing with Mount Sinai for surgery consultation. It seems they are considered the best and most experienced. For a second opinion, can you recommend some other surgeons/hospitals that I could reach out to in canada?

Response:

That is unfortunate for you! If surgeon said not enough small bowel than no. It does happen especially with people with ulcerative colitis. You could get a second opinion but I do believe chances would be limited in other options.

I found literature for Kingston General Hospital – you could go thru the FIND A NSWOC nurse at teh sites I sent earlier – the there should be one for Kingston General – they would havwe the knowledge who the surgeon was.
