I am a 46 yrs old single white caucasian male EMS/EHS professional who had been injured several yr’s ago, I developed intra abd abscess’s and hernia’s chronic bowl obstruction’s etc, In Oct 2015 physicians operated on me and gave me what was only supposed to be 90-120 day Ileostomy and to have been reversed by March 2016….I am 100% stable and that time has come and gone not do to my health but because there is no OR theatre room time Trauma pt’s/Cancer Pt’s are bumping me to back of the line….I am so ready to have the reversal wondering where I can go get this done ASAP if out of pocket etc..
There are several options you will want to explore:
- Ask your current surgeon his/her recommendation(s) on going to another hospital/surgeon or even to the United States.
- Contact your local Health Authority and make an inquiry.
- Go to a local Ostomy Support Group meeting and ask how other people have dealt with this issue.
To find a local Ostomy Support Group near you, see the following instructions below:
Go to Ostomycanada.ca website (this site). You will find the menu at the top bar, click on “Support”, there will then be a drop down menu, click on “Find Your Local Ostomy Support Group”, follow the instructions on that page.
Wishing you a speedy resolution!
Our friends over at Nurses Specialized In Wound, Ostomy And Continence Canada [NSWOCC] (formerly called The Canadian Association for Enterostomal Therapy (CAET)) have renamed their handy look-up page on their website. It was formerly called “Find An ET Nurse” and is now called “Find a NSWOC“. Click on the image to the left or link here to go to their site.
