Ostomy Canada Society is proud to recognize Elizabeth Flynn, RN, NSWOC, as the 2025 recipient of the NSWOC Program Award, celebrating excellence in wound, ostomy, and continence care.
Elizabeth currently serves in a regional NSWOC role supporting clients and healthcare teams across Northwestern British Columbia in acute care, long-term care, and community settings. A graduate of Vancouver Island University’s nursing program in 2012, Elizabeth brings over a decade of diverse clinical experience spanning bone marrow transplant units, First Nations health, and primary care. Her deepening passion for ostomy care was nurtured through her work in community services and the inspiration of an experienced NSWOC mentor.
As an advocate and hands-on clinician, Elizabeth has made a meaningful impact on the ostomy community by educating staff on best practices, providing direct patient support, and co-leading the development and regional rollout of standardized provincial ostomy care documentation. She emphasizes the importance of accessible support, especially for those living in remote areas, and is committed to bridging care gaps with compassion and innovation.
Her forward-thinking initiative includes a plan to increase public awareness around ostomy care by designing educational infographics for display on digital screens in healthcare facilities. These materials aim to address common concerns such as cost, funding resources, and where to seek help, empowering those living with an ostomy to feel informed, supported, and seen.
Please join us in celebrating Elizabeth’s achievements and continued dedication to enhancing the lives of Canadians living with an ostomy. Well done, Elizabeth!
