The Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Recognition (NSWOC) Award is given to an NSWOC who has supported persons with an ostomy through involvement with his/her local Chapter/Peer Support Group activities and at national functions. The award also enables Ostomy Canada members to acknowledge their NSWOC for his/her support and services.

NSWOCC Recognition Award Recipient Carly Lindsay, nominated by Ostomy Hamilton

Carly’s journey with Ostomy Hamilton began when she had her ostomy surgery at the tender age of nine. As a young teen, Carly showed her leadership skills by hosting a winter camp for Ostomy Youth Camp campers from Southwestern Ontario. At 15, she joined Rob Hill in his noble quest to climb Mount Everest, aiming to raise awareness about the ostomy community. Carly has always been an active member of Ostomy Hamilton, consistently speaking at various public events on their behalf.

Her dedication to the Ostomy Canada Youth Camp spanned from ages 9 to 18, and she returned to volunteer at age 21 while studying nursing, eventually becoming the head NSWOC at the camp (2015-present). Carly tirelessly promotes the Ostomy Canada Society at educational events and has played a crucial role in encouraging young ostomates to join the camp. She is always available to answer questions and find solutions to stoma-related issues.

Carly is an inspirational role model and a steadfast supporter of both Ostomy Hamilton and Ostomy Canada Society.

My son , Shane Banfield always looked forward to Camp where he shared/had fun/made many friends – until he aged out and then volunteered. Many thanks to Pat Cimmeck, Lisa Gausman, and so many others,,,,Carly Lindsay….and so many more that I never knew about. Many thanks to all that help out at Camp…where the kids can truly say as Shane did..” I’m not the only one!”. Your information in the E-News is very helpful for all.
