North Vancouver’s Alex MacInnis is tackling the Squamish 50/50 Ultramarathon with a permanent ileostomy to raise awareness and funds for Ostomy Canada. After losing his large intestine to Crohn’s disease, Alex is proving life doesn’t end after ostomy surgery—running over 130 km in two days to inspire others and change perceptions. His campaign, Ultras for Ostomies, supports programs that connect people to resources, community, and hope.

In this compelling personal narrative, Alex MacInnis recounts his emotional and physical challenges during the Squamish 50/50 trail race. Confronted with exhaustion, dehydration, and a flickering sense of hope, Alex discovers profound lessons in perseverance and resilience.
