Ostomy Canada Society is proud to celebrate the outstanding individuals recognized through our 2025 Awards Program. Each recipient reflects the strength, compassion, and leadership that continue to shape and support the ostomy community across Canada. We extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to this year’s award recipients.
2025 Ostomy Canada Post-Secondary Award

This $1,000 award is presented annually to encourage and assist individuals living with an ostomy or other bowel or bladder diversionary surgery in pursuing post-secondary education.
Recipient: Paul (Polus) Yousif, Bradford, ON
Paul is recognized for transforming his lived experience with ulcerative colitis and ostomy surgery into meaningful advocacy, volunteerism, and community support. Through service, academic pursuits, and a strong commitment to dignity and empathy, Paul is helping build more inclusive and supportive systems for others living with an ostomy.
2025 NSWOC Recognition Award

The Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Recognition Award honours an NSWOC who has demonstrated exceptional support for people with ostomies through local chapter involvement, peer support activities, and national engagement.
Recipient: Carly Lindsay, nominated by Ostomy Hamilton
Carly is recognized for her lifelong dedication to the ostomy community through leadership, education, and compassionate care. From youth mentorship and advocacy to her ongoing role as head NSWOC at the Ostomy Canada Youth Camp, Carly continues to inspire and support people of all ages living with an ostomy.
Special Recognition Award

This award acknowledges individuals whose long-standing service and commitment have made a lasting impact on Ostomy Canada Society and the community it serves.
Recipient: Lisa Gausman
Lisa is honoured for 19 years of devoted volunteer service as a mentor, administrator, role model, and advocate for the Ostomy Canada Youth Camp. Her passion for sharing lived experience has positively shaped the camp experience for countless children and youth, leaving a legacy of compassion, connection, and support.
2025 Maple Leaf Award

The Maple Leaf Award is the most prestigious award presented by Ostomy Canada and recognizes outstanding volunteer service benefiting the organization and its members.
Recipient: Ann Ivol
Ann is celebrated for decades of exceptional leadership, advocacy, and unwavering support for the ostomy community and their families. Through her work at local, national, and international levels, Ann’s contributions have strengthened peer support networks, governance, and community engagement across Canada.
2025 Chair’s Award

The Chair’s Award recognizes extraordinary voluntary service demonstrated by a member or associate whose contributions have significantly advanced the mission of Ostomy Canada.
Recipient: Ann Durkee-MacIsaac
Ann is honoured for her fearless advocacy, visionary leadership, and transformative impact on ostomy care, education, and policy. Her work has strengthened Ostomy Canada at every level while improving access, awareness, and support for people living with an ostomy nationwide.
2025 NSWOC Program Award

This $1500.00 award, presented in partnership with NSWOC Canada, celebrates excellence in wound, ostomy, and continence care and recognizes NSWOCs who demonstrate innovation, leadership, and dedication to advancing patient care.
Recipient: Elizabeth Flynn, RN, NSWOC
Elizabeth is recognized for advancing accessible and compassionate ostomy care across Northwestern British Columbia. Through clinical excellence, education, and innovative initiatives, she is helping bridge care gaps and empower individuals living with an ostomy, particularly in remote and underserved communities.
