JOIN OUR MARKETING TEAM

Ostomy Canada Society is looking for a creative and dedicated volunteer to join our Marketing Team as Newsletter Editor. The Connects Newsletter is a quarterly publication distributed to thousands of Canadians living with an ostomy. It covers topics such as ostomy care, news, events, recipes, lifestyle articles and more. It is an online publication produced in February, May, August, and November.

As the Connects Editor, you will be responsible for creating and curating engaging content for Connects Newsletter. The role includes gathering information, writing articles, editing contributions from team members, and ensuring that the newsletter is informative and attractive.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with different departments to collect information and updates for the newsletter
  • Edit and proofread all text submitted for publication
  • Write articles and other content as required
  • Work with the Marketing Team to distribute the newsletter to our members
  • Work closely with the graphic designer on the layout
  • Help post articles on the Ostomy Canada website blog
  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of the newsletter and suggest improvements
  • Assist with various email campaigns and document editing as needed

Qualifications

  • A genuine interest in Ostomy Canada’s mission
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Bilingual in English and French is preferred
  • Experience in journalism or a related field is desirable
  • Membership with Ostomy Canada or one of its affiliated Chapters or Peer Support Groups is a plus
  • Ability to commit approximately 10 hours per month for a minimum of one year
  • Work-study and interns are welcome to apply
  • This is a volunteer/unpaid position

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a consistent publishing schedule
  • Experience proofreading and editing content
  • A commitment to maintaining confidentiality where appropriate
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Teams
